Overview
For students who see themselves developing or managing a contemporary media business, the new Bachelor of Communication (Media Business) has been designed to help them cultivate the core management and communication skills for leadership in media industries. In response to industry demand, the Bachelor of Communication (Media Business) has been created for students with an interest in any aspect of media production, from film and TV, to advertising, music, games, online content, and more. This course equips students with the necessary business skills to be successful in their chosen field. With a basis in ethical and effective practice, they develop an understanding of how power, influence, economics, and legal obligations affect media processes and content creation.
This degree combines a professional degree with language and culture studies, enhancing professional training and career options by providing students with the opportunity to undertake studies at an overseas University.
The rapid rise of digital technologies globally has transformed how the media do business. Based in the fundamentals of business best-practice, including two subjects housed within UTS’s Faculty of Business, this course builds a range of transferable skills. It will equip students with the conceptual frameworks and practical skillsets to drive business success in competitive creative industries, deal with dynamic environments, and establish sustainable, ethical practices. They will learn how to execute astute decisions, harness the reach and influence of online distribution channels, and negotiate emerging challenges and opportunities within various workplace scenarios, including their own creative entrepreneurial work. Throughout the course students build a portfolio of work to promote themselves in the job market.
Career options
To increase career flexibility, students can add a second major from five of the other majors offered in the Bachelor of Communication, and build further skills and portfolios that equip them for a range of work options in media and communication. These courses give students practical and transferrable skills for the expanding media industries.
Career options are extensive, with the skills developed in the course applying to many creative industries. Graduates can pursue business careers within music companies, television and film production companies, advertising agencies, games companies, online and web platforms, and many others. Roles would focus on business development, strategic planning, promotion, policy, and consultancy.
Innovation and Transdisciplinary program
Transdisciplinary Electives at UTS Employers tell us the skills our graduates acquire from undertaking a Transdisciplinary Elective sets them apart from the crowd. That’s why we have embedded this program into every undergraduate degree. All you need to do is choose the Elective that inspires you the most. Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives. By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline. If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe. In both instances, you’ll work on a real-world challenge presented by an industry partner organisation – partners who often create career pathways for our graduates. * Excludes students concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation.Course intended learning outcomes
