Overview

The UTS Online Master of Supply Chain Management is designed to advance technical, analytical and managerial capabilities to build resilient, sustainable and inclusive supply chains for the future.

The contemporary course content is informed by the latest trends in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and co-developed with industry partners. The course is practice-based and incorporates cohesive and innovative approaches, state-of-the-art technologies and provides relevant and practical skills demanded by employers globally.

The UTS Online SCM course content has been co-designed with UTS learning designers and SCM experts to ensure that learners get an engaging and high-quality 100% online learning experience. With personalised ongoing support and six study periods per year, students can study part-time or accelerate their studies in a flexible online learning environment.

As a pre-eminent subject design principle, the subjects are designed to ensure 'relevance to workplace’, instantly adding value to careers and organisations with the capability to transition to a new role or a job and gain the ability to stay relevant and successful.

Course aims

This program has been designed for recent graduates working in the field in an entry-mid level position looking to upskill or aspire to broaden their supply chain management knowledge to advance their career and for those who are looking for a career change in SCM. To succeed in supply chain management professional field, the program provides the requisite knowledge, skills and capabilities by:

  • combining fundamental with specialist knowledge in operations and supply chain management, service design and data analytics or sustainable sourcing, procurement and logistics in several flexible ways, and
  • broadening and diversifying skillset through electives spanning SCM, business and management, and data analytics.

Career options

The Online SCM program is widely recognised and transportable postgraduate degree and holds an authority and reputation that helps graduates rise into various managerial and leadership positions, as well as pivot learners into a new industry or area of business.

Completing the program may lead to roles such as: Production Manager, Procurement Manager/Lead, Purchasing/Logistics Officer/Manager, Logistics Manager, Inventory Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Service Design Manager, Service Supply Chain Designer, Supply Chain Manager - Network Design, Distribution & Inventory Control Analyst, Inventory Analyst, Supply Planning Analyst, Supply Chain Analyst, Logistics Analyst, Operations Coordinator.

Course intended learning outcomes

1.1 Apply critical thinking and advanced analytical skills to identify opportunities and develop innovative solutions that respond to community and business needs within a supply chain management context
2.1 Employ interpersonal and stakeholder management skills and communication strategies to effectively engage and influence diverse stakeholders at multiple levels
3.1 Evaluate and apply principles of ethics, sustainability, and knowledge relevant to Indigenous contexts to guide supply chain managers in making informed decisions to engage with Indigenous businesses and build resilient supply chains for sustainable and inclusive growth
4.1 Integrate advanced knowledge of complex supply chain management concepts with technical and commercial capabilities to lead professional practice effectively in operations and supply chain management across domains

Admission requirements

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.

The English proficiency requirement for local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

Pathway course

Students who do not meet the requirements to gain entry into the Master of Supply Chain Management may be eligible for entry into the Graduate Certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management (C11359), Graduate Certificate in Service Design and Data Analytics in Supply Chain (C11360), or Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Sourcing, Procurement and Logistics (C11361). Satisfactory completion of the UTS Graduate Certificate allows students to articulate into the Master of Supply Chain Management (C04446).

Recognition of prior learning

Recognition of prior learning is considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to CIPS approval. Students may be granted core subjects from prior postgraduate study. For more information about the application process, see How to Apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

Course duration and attendance

The course is offered on a two years, full-time basis. (i.e., 1 x 6 credit point subject per session over 12 x 7-week sessions).
Approval to study more than one six-credit point subject per session will be subject to Faculty approval.

Course structure

The course comprises a total of 72 credit points and consists of a combination of seven compulsory core subjects (42 credit points), three Supply Chain Management subjects (18 credit points), and two elective subjects (12 credit points).

Articulation with UTS courses

This course is part of an articulated program comprising the Graduate Certificate in Operations and Supply Chain Management (C11359), Graduate Certificate in Service Design and Data Analytics in Supply Chain (C11360), or Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Sourcing, Procurement and Logistics (C11361) and Master of Supply Chain Management.

Professional recognition

This course has been accredited to MCIPS standards by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). Following the completion of the course and three years of relevant work experience, graduates are eligible to apply for MCIPS. Students who wish to apply for MCIPS must meet the following conditions:

  • Students must complete two of the following three electives as part of the options list:

    • 210707 Supply Chain Risk and Disruption Management

    • 210709 Monitor, Measure and Evaluate Supply Chain Performance

    • 210710 Operational Procurement and Contract Administration

  • For subject 210712 Supply Chain Management Capstone, students must complete their project/assessments tasks on a procurement and supply chain-related topic, and submit them to CIPS for review as part of the MCIPS application process, and

  • Students must pass all subjects, with no credit given for any form of advanced standing, credit transfer, exemption, or condonement.
