Description
Perceptions and biases filter individuals’ experiences of the world through an imperfect personal lens. Throughout this subject, students maintain an individual portfolio that documents exploration of classic theories and empirical studies in psychology that reveal why humans often make irrational decisions, how visual illusions teach us about the workings of the brain, why memory is malleable, and how we can respond to our surroundings without conscious awareness. Students develop skills in the extraction of key information from a journal article assessing cognition in Indigenous peoples, and reflect on the implications for professional practice. A research report assessment further develops understanding of key research in the field and provides an opportunity to build collaborative interpersonal skills.
