Description

In this subject, participants explore a range of concepts, principles, practices and methods from various disciplinary fields. At the same time, they also examine their own professional practice and broader Fields of Thought from different philosophical and pragmatic perspectives including indigenous knowledges. Participants delve into how seemingly incommensurable approaches can be purposefully juxtaposed to seek new creative synergies and insights.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

Course intended learning outcomes (CILOs)

This subject contributes specifically to the development of the following course intended learning outcomes:

  • Apply theoretical and philosophical perspectives to critically analyse assumptions and the ways disciplines, paradigms and practices guide thinking in academic, professional and everyday contexts (2.1)
  • Analyse different patterns, frameworks and methods and test their value for investigating and addressing complex challenges in professional fields (3.1)

Teaching and learning strategies

This core subject is offered in a flipped learning mode. Participants undertake self-paced study online to examine theories that cut across disciplines, industries and sectors. Participants also draw on their experiences in professional fields and organisational contexts to reflect on ways that these new approaches could enable them to innovate in practice. By doing so, participants develop a repertoire of approaches that can be strategically applied in their professional contexts. Through reflective tasks participants develop their creative intelligence – including professional judgement about how these approaches can generate innovation in real-world contexts.
