Description

Service Design is a recent sub-discipline of Design, but it is also a recent entrant into the history of ways of managing the delivery of value. Service Design brings distinct approaches to the challenge of getting people to render service to other people they do not know. To understand what is distinctive about the Design of Services, this subject locates Service Design within that history of organising and managing service provision. Participants learn the value of design-based approaches to services by developing a wider understanding of the economic history of services and the different ways in which organisations have tried to control services. Each concept introduced in the subject through short presentations and excerpted readings is explored by participants through applied field research exercises. The subject allows participants to build a way of categorising contexts to determine the most appropriate ways of service designing in response.
