Description

This subject involves exploring and framing a real-world problem to form the basis of a student’s major project. Students will select from complex problem areas presented by research and industry partners and work in a project collective with other students to undertake participatory design research. This may include problem mapping, site visits, observations, interviews and co-design workshops with project stakeholders; reflecting collaborative design practice that would occur in a professional studio environment working in social, service or strategic design. Students identify an individual focus area within the problem space and begin developing a socially impactful design response utilising their disciplinary expertise. This subject operates in connection with 85812 Design Methods and 85810 Research Paper A. It lays the foundation for realising the major project in 85817 Social Innovation Project B.
