Description
The MRes thesis in Creative Writing is suitable for writers wishing to diversify and strengthen their creative practice. It is also suitable for those in the writing, publishing or related industries wishing to undertake a formal research project with academic guidance. Students learn how to identify and frame an original creative project or industry-related research project, identify and analyse research within the field, and apply those findings to your research. They develop an understanding of various professional and ethical traditions, key drivers, and challenges within the fields of writing and publishing, while producing a work on an international scale. As they study, students build, design, and produce a major work, a ‘non-traditional thesis’ tailored to their career aspirations and area of interest in writing or publishing. With educational opportunities to develop a thesis as either a practice-led work of creative writing, work-based inquiry project, industry-based research project or a scholarly/conceptual research project, students acquire valuable skills such as practical problem-solving, textual analysis, applied research methodologies, and critical thinking. Students also develop proficiency in writing and narrative skills, digital tools and technologies for research that can be directly applied to real-world industry settings.
