Description

This subject is undertaken while the student is on work placement. Students engage in informal and formal academic and industry mentor meetings. They build a learning contract to solve an interesting problem or opportunity in the workplace, in consultation with both academic and industry mentors.
The student is required to do a short presentation at the workplace in the presence of industry and academic mentors.

Teaching and learning strategies

Learning takes place in the workplace to develop a portfolio of skills and achievements, supported and guided by industry and academic mentors. In collaboration with their mentors, students will identify one or more SFIA skills they would like to develop to proficiency level 3 (apply) as part of their placement tasks or projects. Individualised learning contracts are developed and used to guide learning activities that occur during placement tasks and projects. At the end of the placement, skills proficiency levels are assessed using the learning contracts.

Assessment task 1: Learning contract and skills & reflections presentation

Intent:

Direct attention to specific skills, their selection and the responsibilities attached to each skill at a nominated SFIA level. Record and reflect on the skills learnt, improved or applied while on work placement.
