Description

This postgraduate subject introduces project management principles and tools. Students develop an understanding of managerial practices and their applications to successful performance of information technology solutions. It considers the role of project management in business and identifies the managerial control and reporting aspects necessary from inception to implementation of a development project.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

1. Apply techniques appropriate for successful IT project management. (D.1)
2. Construct project related documentation while working in a team environment. (E.1)
3. Reflect the impact of personal and professional decisions on prepared plans. (F.1)

Course intended learning outcomes (CILOs)

  • Technically Proficient: FEIT graduates apply theoretical, conceptual, software and physical tools and advanced discipline knowledge to research, evaluate and predict future performance of systems characterised by complexity. (D.1)

Teaching and learning strategies

The subject will be conducted via a weekly 3-hour workshop comprising of an interactive session combining topic presentations, discussions, case studies, informal student presentations and collaborative project activities.

Students are expected to undertake pre-work before each weekly session which is available in Canvas. This involves watching the Linkedin Learning course - Project Management Fundamentals, content presentations on Agile Project Management.

Subject assignments utilise a case study as the core content from which students produce authentic project related documentation aligned to professional practice.
