Description

This subject is designed for health and social care professionals, including clinicians, managers, and planners, who aim to enhance their understanding of health data management for improved health and social care service delivery. It will help students to develop critical thinking skills in the design and application of health data systems, focusing on information management, governance, and infrastructure to support high-quality care throughout the health and social care sectors.

Using an information lifecycle approach, students will consider health information from creation to destruction, and across the care continuum. Importantly, students are encouraged to critically reflect on their own and other’s perspectives of health data and contemplate how competing demands for data necessitate balancing legislative requirements and patient’s rights to privacy: including the legitimate use of data for clinical, financial, administrative, research and public health purposes.

Learning occurs through active engagement with case studies, reflective practice, and application of theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, preparing students for advanced roles in health services management.
