Description

Through a combination of applied and practical, action-based learning, this subject challenges students to consider their role as change agents and innovative disruptors in their workplace in the teaching and learning context. Students examine a range of effective and engaging teaching and learning strategies along with key change theories and implementation strategies. In doing so, they identify key characteristics and skills required to lead and manage change and transition, to empower colleagues to actively engage in the spirit of inquiry, teaching and learning and create a culture of educational excellence.

Subject learning objectives (SLOs)

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
A. Evaluate factors the influence workplace culture
B. Critically appraise contemporary change theorems and change process strategies and their application to the teaching and learning context in the workplace
C. Reflect on personal capability as a change agent and innovative disruptor in the teaching and learning context
D. Critically examine the best available evidence to support effective, authentic and engaging teaching and learning experiences in the workplace
E. Design an evidence informed strategy to create, develop and/or maintain a culture of teaching and learning and education excellence

Teaching and learning strategies

Orientation activities
Preparation for the session - You are expected to undertake activities during orientation week. These activities are designed to introduce you to the subject and your peers, and will assist you to prepare for the subject's assessment tasks.

Independent learning activities
Relevant readings, videos and activities will be made available online relevant to the topic of the week. This will support your ability to progress successfully throughout the subject and complete assessment items effectively. The online material aims to enhance your understanding of the topic or delve deeper into a more specific area, compare experiences and ideas with others and gain feedback. Information and links to all these learning activities can be accessed via Canvas as well as the subject outline.

Zoom meetings
You are strongly encouraged to attend all scheduled Zoom meetings as they will prepare you for the subject’s assessment tasks. Additionally, they provide opportunities for group activities, discussion, self-assessment, peer review and formative feedback from the subject coordinator and your teaching team. Assessment task 1: Reflect on being a Change Agent

Intent:

This assessment evaluates your capacities as a change agent within your professional organization. You will reflect on your current role and abilities to drive significant changes in teaching, education, or workplace settings. Additionally, you will identify and evaluate your Values, Attitudes, Beliefs, and Expectations (VABES), reflecting on how these align or conflict with your workplace's cultural norms, values, and attitudes.

This assessment aims to support your self-awareness as a change agent, enhance your leadership potential, and allow you to take effective and impactful action toward positive changes in your workplace.
