This subject has been designed to enable students to gain knowledge and clinical nursing practice in an area of interest to them. Through this experience, students have the opportunity to develop their expertise in the specialty of paediatric nursing (caring for sick children and their families) and to understand the experience of illness and hospitalisation from the perspective of the child and family. This clinical experience extends the paediatric knowledge and experience of children's nursing covered previously, and gives students the opportunity to determine their preference for the specialty of paediatric nursing. It also has the potential to assist students in their quest for future employment.
