This subject focuses on the implementation of teaching strategies for secondary school mathematics. In- service teachers engage with the subject content as a series of workshops during which they experience mathematics teaching from both the perspective of the teacher and of the student. They are expected to analyse the teaching strategies for their appropriateness for particular classroom situations, and critically assess the nature of the learning that each teaching strategy promotes for different learners. Assessment in this subject is strongly practice-oriented, with direct links to the day to day activities of secondary mathematics teachers.
