Description
This subject examines the harmful use of alcohol and other drugs present in some Indigenous communities. Students identify the research in relation to understanding the underlying economic, political and social factors that contribute to harmful alcohol and other drug use patterns of behaviour. Trans-generational trauma, colonisation, the impact of the stolen generation and the impact of other racist Government policy is explored in relation to harmful practices. Students learn practical strategies working with individuals, families and communities when they are experiencing harmful alcohol and other drug use.
