85812 Advanced Design Workshop 1: Design Research

There are course requisites for this subject. See access conditions.

In this subject, students learn to define a problem context, articulate a critical position in relation to their design research and synthesise their design research into key insights for their creative practice. They learn to shape a clear research plan in response to their research questions, analyse and draw insights from precedents, and articulate and respond to what they discover through their research – desk, field or studio. Through these activities, they develop a design research disposition and mindset, including reflecting on their learning, positioning themselves in a field or between fields of inquiry, and identifying the novelty in their design research. Students learn about the significance and impact of design research in the world by engaging with other design practitioners' work and developing and testing their ideas in a safe, deliberative context.
