80035 Photography and the Body

6cp; 1hpw (lecture), 2hpw (Tutorial)

This subject explores photographic representations of the body and the critical legacy of historical and contemporary body-centred practices. Through practical and research-focused projects, students extend their critical image making skills through experimentation and develop practical approaches to image production appropriate to a diverse range of photographic and video contexts. This subject affords opportunities to work both individually and collaboratively. Students consider the implications and pervasiveness of the body depicted in images, as well as the embodied gaze of photographer and viewer, and the inherent performativity of the body in front of the camera.
