This subject deals with aspects of law relevant to healthcare. The subject examines issues at various levels, from the professional-patient relationship to systemic factors that affect safety, quality, choice and dignity in healthcare. Topics include: legal foundations of the health care system; health practitioner regulation; negligence; consent to healthcare; privacy and confidentiality of health information; reproduction; decision-making at the end of life; public health, including infectious and chronic disease control; and medical research involving human participants. The subject focuses on the contemporary Australian context and incorporates some international comparative material.
