Research methods introduces students to the processes involved in scientific research. The material is presented within the context of professional skills required for a successful career in a research-oriented field of science. In this subject, students develop skills in three key areas, researching the literature, experimental design, and research ethics. Students learn to locate, interpret and evaluate primary research articles, the basics of good experimental design including the advantages and limitations of different experimental approaches, and be introduced to ethical considerations for designing and performing research in line with national guidelines. Students learn via self-paced online modules, interactive group work and weekly online interactive workshops to consolidate material.
