The MRes thesis in Journalism is an accredited postgraduate degree leading to professional recognition as a journalist, journalist-researcher and news media practitioner. Students participate in various research training courses including those that are useful for journalism researchers and professionals in an international field of practice. They learn how to gather and analyse information effectively, and accurately, and understand the importance of researching and reporting diverse subjects and communities. As part of their degree, students have the opportunity to participate in a cross-cultural exchange with an international partner university and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to become a global citizen in the field of journalism. They also develop an understanding of various professional traditions, conventions, cultures, and challenges while producing journalism and research on an international scale. Classes involve students engaging in skills-based research training guided by academic and industry mentors and are informed by conceptual and current discourses on contemporary journalism practice, with consideration for the importance of ethics and diversity principles.
