Description

The MRes in Digital and Social Media provides methodological and theoretical training for students interested in researching digital media, including on topics such as social media platforms, apps, AI, data visualisation and analysis, digital activism, and digital identity politics. Through the thesis students may explore and apply a variety of digital research methods including digital ethnography, the walkthrough method, the scrollback method, platform analysis, and qualitative/quantitative coding of digital data. Students also can engage with foundational digital media theories, enabling them to design and conduct an independent research project supervised by a faculty member in the field. This course is a pathway to further research programs, including the PhD, as well as professional roles that involve digital and social media research, data collection and analysis.
