42015 Engineering Practice in an Australian Context3cp; 4 x 2hrs (lecture), 12 x 2hrs (tutorial)
Undergraduate and Postgraduate
This subject essentially mirrors 41035 Engineering Practice Preparation 1 but is designed for students who need significant assistance with their academic literacy.
International students in five-year combined degrees (C09068, C09070, C09072, C09074 and C09076), students in the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (C09066) and the Master of Professional Engineering (C04309) are required to undertake online post-enrolment language assessment (OPELA) screening. Students who achieve a Band 1 result are required to undertake this subject, instead of 41035.
This subject provides students with the opportunities to collaborate with their peers, and the subject's teaching staff, to explore the social practices involved in seeking, obtaining, contributing to and learning from an engineering job or internship. Students are guided in the curation of an e-portfolio that documents their growing understanding of the practices necessary for seeking and obtaining a professional engineering experience. The e-portfolios also document the student's growing capabilities to contribute to a workplace, and to engage in workplace learning focusing particularly on the interpersonal and communication capabilities that may be required in engineering workplaces.
