Description

The Professional Practice Studio is an interdisciplinary studio that tackles complex problems related to contemporary professional contexts. What sets the Professional Practice and Leadership Studio apart is that, being open to students from across engineering and IT, it offers an interdisciplinary design opportunity to work on complex real-world problems with industry, community, and/or internal UTS partners.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to challenge their thinking about their studies, their career, their profession and themselves as professionals in the 21st century. In this subject, students apply their disciplinary experience and engineering skills to complex problems not traditionally considered by engineering students. The projects demonstrate how engineering design processes and skills are transferable beyond engineering. They allow students to apply their research skills and further develop design thinking and systems thinking skills. Students will have the opportunity to network with industry and academics in diverse contexts and settings. They will add a real-world project to their portfolios, talk to employers about and consider their own practice to better communicate it to employers. In doing so, this project develops students understanding of how engineers use what they learn in professional practice.

Students are advised to review the website for further information regarding the studio and the upcoming semester’s project prior to enrolling in the subject: https://www.uts.edu.au/about/faculty-engineering-and-information-technology/professional-practice-and-leadership/what-we-do/professional-practice-studio
