Description
An alternative investment is a financial asset that does not fall into one of the conventional investment categories, such as stocks, bonds, and cash. Because of their complex nature, lack of regulation and degree of risk, alternative investment assets are generally held by institutional investors and accredited, high-net-worth individuals. This subject focuses on alternative investment assets that are offered to investors in the guise of managed funds, such as private equity funds, venture capital funds, hedge funds, and funds of funds. It covers the institutional nature of the management companies that offer these funds and considers the investment strategies they adopt.
