Description
An alternative investment is a financial asset that does not fall into one of the conventional investment categories, such as stocks, bonds, and cash. Because of their complex nature, lack of regulation and degree of risk, alternative investment assets are generally held by institutional investors and accredited, high-net-worth individuals. This subject focuses on alternative investment assets that can be held directly by investors, such as real estate, commodities, cryptocurrencies, mortgages and credit products, and ETFs and derivative securities. It covers the nature of the markets for these assets, the types of institutions that trade them, and their impact on risk management and asset allocation.
