Description
Islamic Architecture is a comprehensive 12-week elective designed for architecture students interested in exploring the rich heritage and innovative designs of Islamic architecture. This course covers the historical evolution and cultural significance of Islamic architecture, from the intricacies of mosque design to the urban layout of Islamic cities. Students will engage with a variety of topics including religious buildings, residential and palatial architecture, and the decorative arts that define this style. Each 3-hour class begins with a one-hour lecture, followed by hands-on activities like design workshops, virtual tours, and group discussions to deepen understanding and apply concepts.
The course aims to cultivate an appreciation of Islamic architectural principles, enhance design and research skills, and foster a critical understanding of how historical influences shape contemporary practices. This subject not only builds architectural knowledge but also encourages students to appreciate the cultural and historical context of architectural styles.
