This subject builds knowledge about the nature of languages teaching in Australian classrooms and specifically how to teach the current (new) NSW K–10 Languages curriculum. The underpinning principles of languages teaching is explored to understand how students learn a second or other language and how to develop appropriate language learning programs for a variety of students in the classroom. Participants look at the history of policies and methodologies, and current practices around languages provision in Australian classrooms and the current research into how to foster language learning that supports the multilingua/multicultural nature of Australian society.
