This subject focuses on diversity amongst students as learners and the challenges presented by living in contemporary society which impact on students' readiness to learn and engage with others. Pre-service teachers are supported to describe and analyse some of the key wellbeing issues currently arising in primary school contexts. An important aim of this subject is to assist future teachers enhance student wellbeing, to follow referral procedures, identify appropriate resources within and beyond the school, and use strategies for supporting students to cope with a range of situations when they arise. This subject equips pre-service teachers with an understanding of the educational philosophy underpinning approaches to meeting the needs of gifted and talented students. Future teachers are introduced to key principles and strategies of curriculum differentiation and provided with opportunities to practice applying these in lesson/program design, implementation and evaluation during their Professional Experience placement that is 15 days.
