Anti-requisite(s): 013453 Professional Experience: Teacher Performance Assessment
Description
This is the final professional experience subject. It includes a 20-day internship where students take responsibility for lesson planning and teaching a class-cohort in a primary school. Students will be supervised by an experienced in-service teacher who prepares an assessment report regarding achievement of AITSL/NESA graduate teaching standards. The external supervisor does not recommend grades or marks; instead, they will award either an ungraded Pass or Fail. A key component of this subject is the Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA) which stipulates that pre-service teachers collect evidence of practice in the final year of their initial teacher education (ITE) program. The TPA is assessed by ITE providers and is a requirement for graduation. In the coursework component, students will be required to prepare a TPA portfolio, which involves four elements:
Element 1: Planning for learning and teaching
Element 2: Analysing teaching practice
Element 3: Assessing for impact on student learning
Element 4: Expanding practice.
Please note that students are required to orient their TPA assessment tasks to the English/Literacy national specialisation with which all UTS Masters students will graduate. Students will also be expected to demonstrate highly effective classroom practices in the teaching of English/literacy.
