MAJ03553 Tunnelling and Underground Engineering

Tunnel and Underground Engineers perform roles in various stages of a project’s delivery involving expertise in site investigation, tunnel and underground design, project management, construction and the application of construction technology such as tunnel boring machines and trenchless technologies. Tunnelling and Underground Engineering is founded upon the application of principles from the disciplines of geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, construction materials, smart technologies, construction management engineering geology and applied physics. Recent advances in automation, industry 4.0, artificial intelligence and numerical simulation tools can be applied to solve contemporary challenges in tunnelling and underground engineering. Upon completion of this degree, students will develop comprehensive disciplinary understanding and practical skills in modern site investigations, planning, design, construction, management, safety and sustainability aspects of tunnelling and underground engineering projects.
