Overview

The world is changing rapidly through digitalisation of much human interaction and communication processes. This, combined with the shifting attitudes among people about brands and the communication and other interactions they have with organisations, is creating new challenges and opportunities for people involved in creating and managing communication programs in a corporate context.

The UTS Online Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communication aims to introduces the strategic use of communication to those who are prospectively adding to their knowledge and skill sets as they take on a communications development and management role in a corporate environment. Students are encouraged to be curious, creative, rigorous, inclusive and respectful of the audiences with whom they communicate.

The UTS Online Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communication is designed for future focused professionals who wish to gain foundational skills in storytelling, stakeholder engagement, crisis communication and reputation management. It was created using the latest, most current communication scholarship and in collaboration with industry. Exercises and assessments are grounded in contemporary challenges and techniques to provide a strong understanding of the topic in the context of corporate communication practice.

The UTS Online Graduate Certificate in Corporate Communication is for those who are progressing their career by taking on an 'in-house' communication development and management position or broadening out their current leadership role with a specific skillset. Careers may may include corporate communication specialist, public relations manager, internal communications manager, media relations specialist, investor relations manager, crisis communications manager, brand manager, communications consultant, event manager, communications director.

Course intended learning outcomes

This course engages with the following Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs), which are tailored to the Graduate Attributes set for all graduates of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences:

1.1 Be ready to support the application of a body of practice-oriented knowledge and skills to develop, implement and evaluate innovative and multi-media solutions to real-world communication challenges within a corporate context.
2.1 Take a practical lead at analysing and reflecting on strategic communication models and practices to plan and execute a substantial body of research that synthesise information across diverse platforms in response to communication issues and challenges.
3.1 Engage in the cultural values and differences amongst individuals, organisations, communities, and society.
4.1 Develop knowledge of indigenous perspectives and critically analyse communication contexts to build capabilities to work with and for Indigenous peoples.
5.1 Take a proactive role in the development of corporate communication strategies that address challenges and implement solutions on issues of exclusion, equity, cultural difference and social justice.
6.1 Understand how to persuade and engage diverse audiences through both written and oral communication strategies across a range of media formats with consideration of others' needs and views.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent

OR

  • A minimum of 4 years full-time or equivalent part-time, relevant professional experience AND An interest in the course and demonstrated understanding of the opportunities present in Corporate Communication AND A general capacity to undertake tertiary education

Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

  • Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
    • A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
    • A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
    • A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
    • An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
    • A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

For applicants who need to demonstrate interest in the course:

  • Personal statement (300 words) outlining how the course intended outcomes align with career expectations.

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Course duration and attendance

This course can be completed in a minimum of 8 months of online study, 1 x 6 credit point subject (or equivalent) per session over 4 x 7-week teaching sessions.

Studying more than 6 credit points a session is not recommended and subject to Faculty approval.

Course structure

The course comprises a total of 24 credit points and consists of four core subjects.
