Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Leadership is for existing or future leaders who want to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of their profession. The program is designed for individuals seeking career progression or those looking to equip themselves with contemporary knowledge about advancements and how to report and present sustainability initiatives and outcomes. Topics include science data, policies, climate change and sustainability practice to develop an all-encompassing skill set for leaders, or emerging leaders, who have sustainability as one of their priorities.

This program is for individuals who want to address the challenges of sustainability from multiple perspectives including techno-economic, social license and community impact. Fully online delivery in accelerated mode provides flexibility to current professionals wanting to further develop their career while still maintaining their employment responsibilities and wishing to apply their learning in their current positions.

Course intended learning outcomes

1.1 Critically appraise and apply advanced skills and knowledge relevant to sustainability and leadership.
2.1 Analyse data and information to design appropriate independent research to solve complex sustainability and leadership problems.
3.1 Develop, prepare, and engage in work practices demonstrating awareness of ethical conduct, risk management, organisation, and governance or regulatory requirements in the context of sustainable leadership.
4.1 Critically reflect on their own and others' practices in relation to sustainability, seek and act on feedback to develop professional practice and learning
5.1 Communicate complex ideas using various communication approaches from a variety of methods (oral, written, digital and visual) to broad audiences around sustainability.
6.1 Evaluate Indigenous Australian contexts to inform professional cultural capability to work effectively with and for, Indigenous Australians within sustainability.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent

OR

  • Completed tertiary-level study of any kind AND A minimum of 2 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant science, industry, or sustainability-related work experience

OR

  • A minimum of 3 years full-time, or equivalent part-time, relevant science, industry, or sustainability-related work experience

Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application

For applicants who need to demonstrate work experience:

  • Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of service in one of the following formats:
    • A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
    • A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
    • A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
    • An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
    • A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)

The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

International students

Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Recognition of prior learning

Students in the Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Leadership are not granted exemptions for any prior studies.

Course duration and attendance

The course is offered on an eight months, full-time basis. (i.e., 1 x 6 credit point subject per session over 4 x 7-week sessions).

Approval to study more than six credit points subject per session will be subject to Faculty approval.

Course structure

The course comprises a total of 24 credit points and consists of four compulsory core subjects.
