Overview
The UTS Graduate Certificate in Science Leadership is for existing or future leaders in the Medical Science sector. The program extends students’ strategic thinking and professional capabilities within a curriculum that is complemented with advanced scientific experience.
Content focuses on leadership, delivering customer value, policy development and professional skills, enabling students to expand upon their existing knowledge and experience and become valued, agile leaders for organisations and communities, as well as socially committed global change-makers.

Career options include academic research team leader, clinical data officer/co-ordinator, clinical operations, clinical project officer/co-ordinator, clinical research officer/co-ordinator, ip and commercialisation officer/co-ordinator, laboratory team lead, medical science liaison, policy officer, regulatory affairs officer/co-ordinator.
Course intended learning outcomes

Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed a UTS recognised bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies.
It is a requirement that the degree be in a relevant Science or Health discipline, such as biological and health sciences, natural and physical sciences (with relevance), health, allied health, or medical sciences or another comparable field. The list of acceptable fields can be found on the UTS Online website.
Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may be considered on the following:
- A minimum of three (3) years professional work experience*; AND
- A general capacity to undertake tertiary education**; AND
- An interview, where required by the Faculty
*Relevant work experience is defined at ANZSCO skill level 1 (commensurate with a bachelor's degree or higher qualification) and is demonstrated through a CV or a Statement of Service outlining work experience and the dates of employment and position(s) held within the organization, demonstrating extensive work as a manager or professional, and the applicant’s ability to critically appraise their work.
**General capacity to undertake tertiary education is demonstrated through a one-page Personal Statement outlining the applicant’s interest in the course and any contemporary professional education undertaken. The statement must clearly articulate the applicant’s learning expectations which align with the course intended outcomes and demonstrate capacity to undertake the course (such as, but not limited to, successful completion of UTS postgraduate microcredentials).
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.5; or TOEFL: internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 24; or AE6: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 overall with a writing score of 58; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 overall with a writing score of 176.
Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.
International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.
Recognition of prior learning
Students in the Graduate Certificate in Science Leadership are not granted exemptions for any prior studies.
Course duration and attendance
The course is offered on an eight months, full-time basis. (i.e., 1 x 6 credit point subject per session over 4 x 7-week sessions).
Approval to study more than six credit points per session will be subject to Faculty approval.
Course structure
The course comprises a total of 24 credit points and consists of five compulsory core subjects.
