This course is open to nurses and midwives from across Australia. However, due to the specific professional and legislative requirements in Victoria, this course does not meet the criteria set out by the Victorian Government. Therefore, applicants from Victoria who wish to practice as a Child and Family Health practitioner in Victoria should strongly consider this before applying.

Overview
This program of study is designed to build on the knowledge and skills of registered nurses and midwives to develop capacity to work in a primary health care setting with young children and their families. The comprehensive study program focuses on infant care and child health, and the promotion of maternal and family health and wellbeing. The accompanying clinical experience program provides placements in community child and family health services as well as Tresillian Family Care Centres.
The Graduate Certificate in Child and Family Health prepares registered nurses and midwives for beginning practice in the clinical specialty of child and family health. This course is fully online with options to enrol several times a year. There is also a clinical component where students spend time in community-based Maternal and Child/ Child and Family Health centres and Tresillian Family Care Centres.
Course aims
Child and family health practitioners work in partnership with parents as they learn the skills of parenting and caring for the infant and growing child. The primary healthcare role of the child and family health practitioner includes health teaching with parents, health promotion in the community, group work and counselling for parents and caregivers, and health surveillance of infants and children.
Career options
Career options include positions in Community-based Child and Family Health Centres /Maternal Child Health Centres, and General Practitioner practices.
The Graduate Certificate in Child & Family Health provides Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives with theoretical knowledge and associated skills that prepare them to work autonomously and across a variety of clinical settings with children and families. Graduates will be able to apply advanced learning and theory concepts and analysis to promote optimal health outcomes for children and families.

Admission requirements
To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.
Applicants must have one of the following:
- Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in Nursing or Midwifery AND Current registration as a nurse or midwife in Australia (AHPRA)
OR
- Current registration as a nurse or midwife in Australia (AHPRA) AND Relevant post-registration clinical experience AND A general capacity to undertake tertiary education, demonstrated by successful completion of hospital or college certificates and professional or staff development
Supporting documentation to be submitted with the application
For applicants required to demonstrate work experience:
- Curriculum Vitae AND Statement of Service in one of the following formats:
- A 'Statement of Service' provided by the employer
- A completed 'UTS statement of service’ signed by the employer
- A statutory declaration confirming work experience (for Australian Residents only)
- An official letter from the applicant’s accountant or solicitor on their company letterhead confirming the applicant’s work experience or engagement with the business, duration of operations, and the nature of the business
- A business certificate of registration in original language and English (e.g. provision of ASIC documentation or ABN or similar documentation for Australian Businesses)
The English proficiency requirement for local applicants with international qualifications is: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL iBT: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64 with a writing score of 50; or C1A/C2P: 176-184 with a writing score of 169.

Course duration and attendance
The course can be completed in a minimum of 8 months online study, 1 x 6 credit point subject (or equivalent) per session over 4 x 7-week sessions.
