Overview
The Bachelor of Languages and Cultures offers students studies in languages other than English, culture and society focused on developing their intercultural and linguistic capabilities. It also offers a capstone subject that allows students to design and carry out a small-scale research project that requires them to apply their linguistic skills and cultural knowledge.
The combined Bachelor of Communication (Digital and Social Media) Bachelor of Languages and Cultures provides students with intercultural and linguistic skills that raise their awareness of the international implications of digital and social media. Students develop an understanding and awareness of a language other than English languages and another culture and refine their intercultural skills. Students also develop their professional skills in writing, research and evaluation.
The degree offers a comprehensive introduction to digital and social media as a social phenomenon and future career pathway. The degree is one of first media degrees in Australia to specifically focus on social media, is taught by content experts and industry practitioners, and is well recognised within industry. Graduates are technologically literate, analytically sophisticated, innovative and resourceful.

Career options include social media manager, UX/UI designer, digital campaign manager, prototype designer, digital entrepreneur, policy analyst, digital content producer, digital marketing specialist, and communications officer.

Admission requirements
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.
The English proficiency requirement for international students or local applicants with international qualifications is: Academic IELTS: 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL: paper based: 550-583 overall with TWE of 4.5, internet based: 79-93 overall with a writing score of 21; or AE5: Pass; or PTE: 58-64; or CAE: 176-184.

International students
Visa requirement: To obtain a student visa to study in Australia, international students must enrol full time and on campus. Australian student visa regulations also require international students studying on student visas to complete the course within the standard full-time duration. Students can extend their courses only in exceptional circumstances.

Course duration and attendance
The course is offered on a five-year, full-time basis.
Course structure
Students must complete 240 credit points, consisting of 24 credit points of core subjects, a 48-credit-point major and potential 48-credit-point second major (subject to application), 24 credit points of cross-disciplinary electives and a 96-credit-point language and culture choice. Students who do not meet the requirements to study the second major complete elective subjects. The Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Cultures is not offered as a separate degree but is completed only in combination with the professional degree program.
