Overview

Students enrolled in the Master of Speech Pathology (C04386) can apply to transfer into this exit-only course after completing 48 credit points of specified study and gain a graduate diploma qualification.

Course intended learning outcomes

1.1 Recognise and explain the principles of practice, scope of practice, and range of practice areas of speech pathologists in Australia; and apply this knowledge in approaching clinical scenarios.
1.2 Apply the World Health Organisation's International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health, the Social Determinants of Health, and Models of Disability to clinical scenarios in the field of speech pathology.
2.1 Identify the types of research studies conducted in the field of speech pathology, and locate and review these studies to inform their knowledge of the field.
3.1 Recognise and apply principles of collaborative and person-centred practice in the field of speech pathology and describe a range of strategies that support engagement in inter-professional teams.
3.2 Demonstrate effective interpersonal communication in the field of speech pathology and apply this in their clinical placement learning opportunities with children and families.
4.1 Critically reflect on Indigenous Australian contexts to inform professional cultural capability to work effectively with, and for, Indigenous Australians within health, disability, education, and employment sectors; as clients, colleagues, supervisors, or community members.
