Description
This subject encourages students to link theory to practice, and facilitates the development of core competencies for diabetes educators stipulated by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA). Workshop activities focus on the clinical skills required to care a person with diabetes, and encourage students to think critically about their specific role as a diabetes educator. The formal clinical placement and additional professional practice exposure support these activities which, along with independent study, consolidate essential skills and knowledge for the diabetes educator. The subject is informed by evidence-based practice and guidelines for person-centred diabetes education and management, both in the workshop and clinical settings.
