Description

This subject requires students to develop and defend a research proposal on an original problem of a theoretical or applied nature in economics that forms the basis of the research to be carried out in 23910 Thesis in Economics (Honours). The students are also required to produce a written review of the academic literature relevant to their thesis topic. Students meet regularly with their supervisor from the Economics Discipline Group throughout their enrolment in the subject. The subject develops the student's competency in developing an independent research proposal in economics and carrying out a critical review of the literature.

Upon successful completion of this subject students should be able to:
1. develop and defend a research proposal on an original problem of a theoretical or applied nature
2. research and write the review of the academic literature in areas relevant to their research proposal

Contribution to the development of graduate attributes

The Bachelor of Business (Honours) program provides an opportunity for advanced study in the Economics disciplinary area. This subject will enable students to design a thesis proposal. Students will be guided by their supervisor in reading existing literature and developing a feasible and original theoretical or applied problem to be researched in the subject 23910 Thesis in Economics (Honours).

This subject also contributes specifically to develop the following Program Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate how research design and outcomes create value for Indigenous Australians, and contributes to ways that others can work ethically and sustainably (3.1)

Students meet regularly with thesis supervisor over the semester to review proposal development.
