Description

This subject is designed to provide students who have successfully completed Japanese 6 or its equivalent with the ability to consolidate and extend their knowledge of Japanese. By integrating four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), the main focus of this subject is to critically engage in the Japanese and cultural and linguistic practices by interacting with Japanese speakers (not necessarily native speakers). It involves reflection of students' own linguistic and cultural background in discussing their identities and positions in the target Japanese cultural and linguistic environment.

Throughout the subject, students are expected to actively engage in reading and writing and to participate in all learning activities. In terms of literacy development, students are expected to increase the ability to analyse Japanese language and associated practices from broader sociocultural and geopolitcial perspectives. They are also expected to increase their reading and writing skills to express their own views and ideas in the target language.
