This subject is designed for students who have a basic knowledge of the Chinese language. It aims to further develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing. It helps students increase their oral communicative proficiency, competence and engagement to satisfy their basic survival needs. The acquisition of knowledge of Chinese culture and society is included in the subject to help students communicate and interact effectively with Chinese people in different sociocultural contexts. The subject also enhances students' ability to use Chinese characters by gradually introducing more written texts. Students are expected to actively participate in various learning activities, both inside and outside the class, to practice and consolidate their language skills.
