Description

This subject covers critical knowledge that public health practitioners and health researchers need concerning epidemiology. It enables students to develop understanding of, and skills in, the core concepts of epidemiology that are necessary for analysis and interpretation of public health data as well as critical appraisal of the public health literature. Topics covered in this subject include measures of disease occurrence, measures of association between exposures and disease, epidemiological study designs, principles and techniques of epidemiology, critical appraisal of research studies, assessment of risk of bias for published studies, and systematic review of current literature relevant to a research question. The subject helps students to build knowledge and skills in interpretation and application of research methods for policy and practice in public health contexts.
