Global Studio: Dessau/Berlin – constructing the commons

Description

Lead by the question of how current collaborative practices are creating new urban spaces, students develop proposals for the future of the common in different perspectives. The studio examines and deconstructs structures and artistic positions of the common, and constructing a real utopia based on existing social practices, understanding the space as agency of the common.

The studio deals with the relevance of the new commons. It is significant that sharing has become a term from the economic realm and the meaning of sharing has radically changed. Students look at whether there are spheres beyond the market which allow us to shape our living environments. In doing so students focus on urban and spatial models and scan basic conditions for commons and commoning.

The global studio program provides intensive studio learning through cross-cultural education and collaborative learning. The program encourages interdisciplinary learning and offers an expanded studio environment in which students discover and synthesise new technical and conceptual skills from multiple disciplines within the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building.
