Description

The subject considers how new forms of interdisciplinary design solutions can provide immersive engagement for audiences in a range of situations/locations that enable the viewer to have a close and personal involvement with the work. To achieve this, students are encouraged to experiment with a range of immersive devices including performance, passive/active and emotional modes of engagement and dramatic theatre in their design solutions. In doing so, they interrogate the temporal, spatial and audio properties of the space and enliven it through media and objects that are informed by a strong underlying narrative.

This studio places emphasis on exploratory and experimental approaches that helps students develop advanced visual language and understanding of immersive audience engagement that can be used to inform a range of design outcomes.

The subject provides students from all undergraduate design disciplines with an opportunity to re-imagine an intimate museum-like space in Sydney in ways that explore the flexible boundaries between curator, historian, designer, visitor, object, space and time.
