In this subject students explore academic and industry debates relating to the current news environment. They study and develop their own online written news stories through the creation of individual and group websites, which include audio and video storytelling for multiplatform journalism. Students are required to explore and understand latest trends in curating and packaging online news stories for online platforms. Additionally, students are encouraged to think about how to plan stories to suit social media platforms, with a focus on designing their stories for various platforms that complement each other to create an overall narrative. Other skills that are covered include live-streaming, the use of online news sourcing methods, understanding online audience consumption patterns, the use of data visualisation, the power of the image, and future journalism business models.
