Description

This subject provides an understanding of the complexities of designing, building and operating telecommunications infrastructure. The subject provides insight into the interrelationships and dependencies between various aspects of large telecommunications projects including technical, commercial, financial and regulatory aspects.

Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN) illustrates how the various aspects of a telecommunications project can come together, via a business case, to provide a financial return for the investors in the project. The importance of a high-speed, fixed-line broadband network to a country's economic and social wellbeing along with international examples are discussed.
